The Importance of classroom and administrative experience

Is the superintendent a "Chief Educator" or "Chief Executive" of an educational enterprise? How important is classroom experience or for that matter, local administration experience? What do you think?

  1. One of the most important jobs in a supervisory position is the hiring of principals who run our schools. The principals hired into our system need to have vision and creativity to hire interesting and vibrant teachers. The principals are the ones hiring teachers who stay for so long. Principals and teachers make the difference in the classrooms and in the towns. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the principals hired energetic, interesting and creative teachers with forward thinking approaches to education.
I think a new superintendent should reflect this practice.
